About

About
Clinical Space

Clinical Space is a hopeful-futuristic sci-fi audio drama podcast about the struggles, joys, and daily life of Dr. Aja Graves, the counseling officer aboard a starship. The narrative is delivered mainly through Dr. Graves' session notes and personal logs. Our story picks up shortly after Dr. Graves is first stationed on the Erebus, a deep-space exploration ship of the Astro Navy. Over time, we explore the formation of friendships, the trials of professional life out in the vastness between stars, and the effects of these things on the mental health of the crew.Drawing on themes and tropes from beloved works of science fiction such as Star Trek, Schlock Mercenary, The Bright Sessions, and more, this series aims to bring a note of emotional realism to the genre. The characters and stories are brought to life through situational humor as well as the occasional focus on deeply serious topics.

About
the Creators

Clinical Space was conceptualized, written, and produced by Haven Daye. Haven has always been passionate about science, science fiction, fiction in general, and the use of language to convey deep meaning. They have been writing short-form for years and also have considerable experience in amateur audio engineering -- serialized audio fiction seemed a blending of many of their interests. As their first project in the fiction podcast medium, Clinical Space is a labor of love on Haven's part, and was made possible with the help and participation of close friends and family.

Amanda Gillespie (all pronouns) is a queer writer, a voice actor, a fantasy, sci fi, and literature enthusiast, an amateur cook, and an aspiring gym rat. They live in Denver, Colorado with their wife Jessica, their two Shetland sheepdogs, and a growing army of Magic the Gathering cards. They can reluctantly be found on Instagram at arg.kimbrell

About
the Production

The concept for this show evolved gradually through several very different versions of "journal entries by character in space" during the first half of 2024. Haven decided on making the main character a counselor after pondering the frustrating pattern of sci-fi ship crews going through events both wonderful and terrible without much lasting impact on them as people beyond the single episode. The cast for Season 1 consists mainly of people from Haven's personal life giving their time and enthusiasm to the project (which is met with much appreciation). Most of the lines were recorded in a free studio at the public library, and most of the editing was done using Audacity on a home computer. Haven designed the initial logos on Inkscape and composed the initial theme using a web-based MIDI tool. While the initial intent was to create and release the first season by the end of 2024, a mixture of perfectionism, unforeseeable life events, and generally not knowing what they're doing caused Haven to push the date back as repeatedly as the average big-budget video game dev.Dusty Hall composed the main theme for Clinical Space in the spring of 2025, which served as a gorgeous improvement on the stand-in demo theme that had been used up to that point. His thought was that a duet of french horn and cello arranged to sound like a conversation between the two instruments would convey the tone of a therapy session, while the harp added into the second half would give a sense of the grandeur of space. He was correct on all counts.Currently, Episode 1 is scheduled to be released May 8, 2025.
